The shoot was for Eve Muscio, a designer of gorgeous wedding gowns by Eve of Milady. Eve is so much fun and such an inspiring woman. The silk, satin, lace and beading on her gowns goes on forever… the dresses are truly pieces of art. The gowns on the shoot were accessorized by jewelry from my sister Margaret Rowe and the photographer was Michael Biondo whose fashion and architectural photography is amazing. Everyone on the set was so creative, fun, and professional and being at Alder Manor in itself was inspiring. Unfortunately, I’m not able to share any images of the gowns or the model as everything is yet to be published. But, take a look at the location…
Alder Manor was built in 1912 for William Boyce Thompson, a millionaire from Alder Gulch, Montana who made his fortune in copper mining and later on Wall Street. The architects for this classically inspired Italian Renaissance Revival mansion were Carrere and Hastings, who also designed the New York Public Library, the Frick mansion, and a home for John Jacob Astor, all on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Situated on one of the highest hills in northwestYonkers, the property was originally comprised of twenty-one acres, and had panoramic views of the Hudson River and the grand Palisades across the river.
The estate fell into disrepair over the years and is slowly being brought back to its former glory. Inside the 72-room mansion you’ll find the stately marble staircase and entry, built-in pipe organ, second floor indoor pool, ornate fireplaces, library, kitchen, peeling wallpaper, the hall of closets, an opium den in the basement, and many, many bedrooms. Outdoors you’ll see the gorgeous overgrown gardens in a Greek style including an outdoor theater stage, 3 small pools, a gazebo, and beautiful grounds overall.
In addition to being used for events, Alder Manor is a favorite of location scouts and can be seen in The Royal Tennenbaums, Mona Lisa Smile, Law and Order, A Beautiful Mind, Boardwalk Empire, MGMT Flash Deliriummusic video, Anthropologie and Victoria’s Secret ad campaigns and many fashion shoots (including Eve of Milady!).
